Help send brain tumour Salford mum to Disneyland

Friends and family of a mum-of-two from Salford with an aggressive and incurable brain tumour are holding a fundraiser this weekend so she can fulfil her ‘bucket list’ request of taking her young children to Disneyland.

Nicola Abbott’s life was shattered when she was involved in a car crash in January on her way to work in Manchester.

At first the 26-year-old thought she was fine, but the next day complained of pains down her arms.

Thinking she had whiplash, she visited Salford Royal Hospital for a check up but was sent home with painkillers and told that she had migraine, which continued and were getting worse.

In March an MRI scan revealed that she had a brain tumour.

All seemed well when a week later an operation successfully removed 98% of the tumour, relieving pressure on her brain.

The tumor was sent for testing and that’s when Nicola got the devastating news that she had glioblastoma multiforme, the most aggressive form of malignant tumour for which there is no cure.

It left her with a death sentence: the average lifespan of those diagnosed is just 18 months.

Her sister Lucy Abbott told SalfordOnline.com about the effect it had on the family.

“Nicola is obviously devastated but she is a very positive woman and believes in moving forward and trying not to let it get her down.”

Nicola asked her family to hold a charity fundraising event with all the money to be split between the MacMillan Cancer Charity and her bucket list, which involves taking her children Emilia, 4, and Logan, 6, to Disneyland, so that they will have everlasting memories of their mum.

“We have booked Henley’s Bar on Barton Lane in Eccles this Sunday 5 July for the fundraiser and there will be something for everybody on the day,” said Lucy.

“There will be a funfair, bouncy castle, burgers, drinks, a disco and I will be shaving my hair for charity on the day, so please call in and help support us”.

The event will run from 2pm until late, with admission £2 for adults and £1 for children, and any donations gladly received.

If you can’t make it and want to drop in a donation head to Nicola’s Go Fund Me page.
