Man in life-threatening condition after being head-butted in City Centre

A man is in a life-threatening condition after being head-butted in Manchester city centre.

At about 5.50am this morning, Sunday 24 July 2016, the victim was outside Void nightclub on Richmond Street when he was approached by a man, who head-butted him. He fell to the floor and managed to get up, but fell unconscious shortly afterwards and went into cardiac arrest. A passer-by called an ambulance and the victim went to hospital, where he remains in a life-threatening condition.

The attacker, who fled on foot, is described as an Asian man in his late 30s-early 40s, wearing blue jeans, a black t-shirt, and brown boots.

Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for information and witnesses.

Detective Sergeant Phillip Marsh of GMP’s City of Manchester Team said: “This horrific and random act of violence has left a man in critical condition in hospital.

“The motive for the attack is not clear but do we believe it was a completely unprovoked attack on an innocent man.

“I urge anyone who saw the assault or has information about who is responsible to come forward and speak to police.”
