21 year old male talked down from Eccles motorway bridge


Emergency crews were called to Wellington Road, Eccles at 4.10am today after receiving reports of a male, 21 who was threatening to jump off the glass bridge that crosses the M602 just before Junction 2 at Gilda Brook Road.

The motorway was closed in both directions and side roads including Albert Road, Clarendon Road and Half Edge Lane were closed to traffic.

Trained negotiators were able to speak to the man who eventually came down at 6.55am.

He was taken by ambulance to Salford Royal Hospital for a medical assesement.

The motorway and side roads were opened at 7.30am
