‘Epic Fail’: Swinton’s dumbest criminal stalls while trying to steal council bin wagon

A dozy thief has been arrested in Swinton after police caught him trying to slip off with an unattended Salford City Council refuse truck.

It was around 9.20am yesterday, Tuesday 30 June.

The wagon driver had left his keys in the vehicle while helping his colleagues empty bins on Station Road.

It was then that the hapless robber jumped into the front seat with his dog and attempted to fire it up to speed off down the street.

But in a daring bid for freedom he stall the engine, shuddering to a halt just yards from the bemused council workers.

The driver simply walked back to the vehicle and wrestled the keys out of the ignition.

Along with his canine companion, the offender ran off down Chorley Road, but was captured shortly afterwards by police.

GMP Salford West described the attempted theft as an ‘Epic Fail’, adding drily: “It is still unknown at this moment whether it was the male or the dog that masterminded the poor attempt to drive away in this vehicle.”
