Smash on Eccles Old Road causing heavy traffic backup


Police are dealing with a two-car crash causing tailbacks on Eccles Old Road and around Salford Royal hospital.

Officers were called at 3.15pm on Wednesday to reports that two white cars had collided on the main road outside the hospital, near Elmwood Church.

Traffic is tailed back to the Gilda Brook Road M602 roundabout with additional delays on Lancaster Road, Stott Lane and Half Edge Lane.

Motorist are being advised to avoid the route if possible.

Police said a man and woman were involved in the accident.

Ambulance crews were treating both patients at the scene.

No-one is thought to be seriously hurt.

Drivers are reminded that they are still allowed to use the bus lanes during this traffic experiment.
