GMP firearms manager reinstated

In April 2015, Greater Manchester Police announced that during an internal review of GMP’s Firearms Licensing Unit, a small number of the sample of 100 licences examined raised concerns about the “appropriateness” of some of the decisions made, as a result a full evaluation of all licences was undertaken.

A senior member of police staff from the Firearms Licensing Unit was suspended whilst an investigation was conducted. These enquiries have since concluded and found that there was no evidence of misconduct and the member of staff has been reinstated.

A full review of all 10,500 firearms licences held in the GMP area remains ongoing, with approximately 4,000 licences reviewed to date
