Top 5 things to do in Salford this weekend


Its the weekend at last and we are promised good weather, so why not get out of the house and have a look at these attractions on offer for you.

Simon Ennis Charity Cup, Lord Street, Cadishead – Saturday 6 August – 12pm – Late

Head down to Cadishead Rhinos’ ground at Lord Street from noon for the 7th annual rugby match between the Rhinos and Bury in memory of the late Fusilier Simon Ennis, tragically killed at 21 whilst serving his country in Afghanistan.

Attractions include, BBQ, bouncy castle, inflatabale slide, refreshments, licenced bar, armed forces will be on display with activities and displays.

Any money made on the day will be split between the ABF Soldiers’ Charity and the Cadishead Rhinos Clubhouse appeal.

Rio 2016 Team GB Fanzone at MediaCityUK, Salford Quays– Saturday 6 August – 11am – 6pm

The Official Team GB FanZone at MediaCityUK will be a fantastic place to experience all of the action and atmosphere of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games whilst supporting the Team GB athletes in their quest for Olympic glory.

The FanZone will show live coverage of the Games at selected times offering the chance to share memorable and historic sporting moments as well as the opportunity to participate in some Olympic sports that our Team GB stars will be competing in.

Entry to the FanZone is free and activities start from 11am each day.

Leigh Guided Busway fun walk/cycle/horse ride – Sunday 7 August – 11am – 3pm

Meeting at the guided busway stop on Holden Road in Leigh for a fun walk/cycle/horse ride on the newly created pathway for the Leigh Guided Busway.

This fun packed day is free to all those who come along with free bikes available, teddy bears’ picnic and smoothie bike along with an orienteering course by the Friends of Lilford Park.

The event will start at 11am at the guided busway stop on Holden Road and continue through to Astley Street guided busway stop, a tour of around 45 minutes. After that there’s an event

There are way finding signs along the route and there will be benches to sit and enjoy the views.

If it’s a clear day, you may even be able to see as far as Jodrell Bank!

Peel Park Back in Time Exhibition – Sunday 7 August – 10am -3pm

Wonderful exhibition on Peel Park, on of the city’s most photographed and iconic public parks.

Exhibition includes information on how the park is being redeveloped for the 21 century.

Salford Red Devils – Sunday 7 August – 3pm kick off.

Call in at the AJ Bell Stadium and watch Salford Red Devils take on Huddersfield Giants in what promises to be an enthralling encounter in a must win match for Salford.
