Leigh MP Andy Burnham Labour’s candidate for Greater Manchester Mayor

Andy Burnham has been chosen as Labour’s candidate for Greater Manchester’s first Mayor.

The Leigh MP will be hoping to claim the hot seat at the mayoral election in May 2017.

Party members had until last Friday to cast their vote for their preferred choice.

The 46-year-old from Liverpool has previously vowed to win back the Labour voters from Greater Manchester if elected and also reinvigorate the notion of the “Northern Powerhouse”.
