Two injured in serious motorbike smash in Salford


Two people have been injured in a serious accident near Salford Royal hospital.

Paramedics responded to an emergency call to the junction of Eccles New Road and Stott Lane at 2.55pm today, Monday 15 August.

Police immediately closed part of Eccles New Road to traffic coming from Manchester towards Eccles.

Three ambulances and two rapid response vehicles were scrambled to the scene, just 500 yards from the hospital entrance.

It was reported to be a crash between two people riding on a black and red motorbike and a white Ford Transit van.

The motorbike was completely destroyed in the crash.

Pictures from the scene show the white van with a large dent in its side.

Officers erected steel fences and a police cordon around the crash site while they waited for GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit to arrive.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said two patients had been taken to Salford Royal hostpial for treatment.

It’s understood that the patients injured are the rider and passenger on the motorbike.

Both were given emergency treatment at the scene before being taken across to Salford Royal.
