Teenagers, 18 and 19, recovering after motorbike crash in Salford

Two young men injured in a serious motorbike crash in Salford in Monday are recovering.

The rider and passenger, age 18 and 19, each suffered head injuries in the accident, which happened shortly before 3pm on Monday 15 August.

Pictures from the scene show a black motorbike in pieces on Eccles New Road, opposite the junction with Stott Lane, and a white Ford Transit van with a large dent in its side.

Police closed a section of Eccles New Road to traffic, setting up crash barriers and a police cordon while they investigated the incident.

Both teenagers were treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Salford Royal hospital for further assessment.

It’s reported both are recovering well.

Greater Manchester Police have denied one eyewitness report that officers were chasing the bike in the moments before it crashed.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the force said: “The motorcycle was previously reported stolen from an address in Higher Broughton, Salford on Friday 12 August 2016.”

There is no suggestion that the crash victims had been involved in any act of criminality.

Greater Manchester Police said no arrests had been made, but added that enquiries were ongoing.

Anyone with information should call Greater Manchester pPlice on 101 quoting 1255 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
