Goal-happy Salford City could cause carnage at Nuneaton Town

Salford City have a chance to go to the top of the Vanarama National League North if they beat Nuneaton Town when they travel to Warwickshire on Saturday.

The Ammies’ unbeaten league run stretches back to March last season and now extends to 14 games in a row.

Meanwhile The Boro are still searching for their first win of the season, and will be hoping for a good result at Liberty Way to climb out of the relegation zone.

Kevin Wilson’s men currently sit in 20th, but could climb up to 15th providing other teams slip up and Curzon Ashton’s game against AFC Telford doesn’t end a draw.

Whilst Ammies gaffers Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley have quality attacking players by the score, their defence has been even more impressive.

Salford have conceded just one goal so far this campaign – on the opening day of the season.

Defence was a concern before the season started, with veteran centre-half captain Chris Lynch leaving for Australia, however both Michael Nottingham and Simon Grand have hit the ground running and continued their good form from Solihull Moors and Barrow respectively.

It has resulted in the most balanced side since The Class of 92 took over the club.

This season is the first time since the takeover that the club has achieved two clean sheets in its opening three games.

Tomorrow’s opponents should be easy pickings for Salford’s defence if Nuneaton’s recent goal drought is anything to go by.

The inexperienced front two of Aaron Williams and Joe Ironside have scored just two goals so far this campaign, and have struggled to gel together to spearhead a team that should be doing much better in the league.

Even more concerning for tomorrow’s hosts however is the fact they have conceded five goals in their opening two home games, both of which ended in defeat.

Combine that with a Salford attack that has seen five different goalscorers in their opening three games and tomorrow could be carnage at Liberty Way.

Kick-off is at 3pm.
