Salford City’s Moor Lane fortress to host battle of Gainsborough

Salford City will hope to continue their fantastic start to the season when they host Gainsborough Trinity at Moor Lane on Saturday afternoon, kick-off 3pm.

With the national spotlight on the club following the debut of the second season of BBC One’s Class of 92: Out of Their League, Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley’s men will aim to translate that interest off the pitch to results on it.

It’s been so far so good for Salford this season with an unbeaten start in five games and they could go top with a win tomorrow.

While tomorrow’s visitors haven’t blown away the league, The Trinity haven’t fallen below expectations either.

Concerning for Steve Housham though is that they are yet to win away from home so far this season, and conceded eight goals for their troubles.

Salford meanwhile have made Moor Lane into a fortress, last losing a league game at their ground playing Darlington 1883 five months ago.

It’s a positive run that should lead to the in-form hosts securing victory.

The Ammies will also be keen to avenge what happened on Tuesday when they squandered a chance to go top of the league against AFC Fylde.

The Ammies will hope to continue their goalscoring form against one of the worst defences in the league so far.

Gainsborough have conceded more goals than four of the teams below them so far this season and have only registered one clean sheet so far this season, against Altrincham.

Salford meanwhile have John Johnston fit again, with the winger making two substitute appearances this week, and new signing Harry Worley has overcome a hamstring problem, but Brad Barnes still isn’t quite 100%.

Matt Warburton will face a late assessment after being forced off with a stiff neck during the 3-3 draw at AFC Fylde.
