Brothers In Arms: Forces and Foundation will benefit as Salford band set poignant poem to music

A local Salford band have put their pens down and picked up their instruments in a bid to let ‘a voice of war’ take the stage.

The band in question – Cinnamon Dinner – have used the words from a poem written by serviceman Mac McFaddon as lyrics for a new track that will be sold with all the proceeds going to The Soldiers’ Charity ABF and The Royal British Legion.

Ryan Wilde, 23 (guitar & vocals), Stephen Buckley, 24 (guitar & vocals), Jake Redshaw, 23 (bass) and the mysterious ‘Scubie’ (drums) have transformed Mac’s poem for us all to hear.

The poem – titled ‘Brothers In Arms’ – has been brought to life by the band as they recite it line-by-line in their musical adaptation.

After recording, the guys released the track with the intention of raising money for charities which strike a chord with the poem’s themes: war and friendship.

The lyrics detail the diverse backgrounds of those who fought for the British Army.

And how despite their apparent differences, they were “Brothers In Arms from the time they enrolled”.

The tribute ends on a message of lasting friendship: “As years go by, and life moves on, they’ll leave their comrades, one-by-one.

“To return to the cities, the towns and the farms, they’ll never forget that they’re Brothers In Arms”.

Band leader Ryan told SalfordOnline.com: “The cause is important to us because we know personally someone who has come out of the army and has been affected by it.

“They fight for us, so why can’t we fight for them?”

“We grew up seeing the after-affects, so if we can help and get help to find support for such things then we’re all for it.”

All proceeds from the Brothers In Arms sales are being evenly split between ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and The Royal British Legion, known for their yearly Poppy Appeal.

Over the years, the band have played numerous gigs which have focused on raising funds for British Army related charities.

Cinnamon Dinner will also be performing for The Sounds of Salford event ‘Help Our Own’ on 10 September at The Dog & Partridge pub, 221 Church Street, Eccles, M30 0LY.

Any donations from the fundraiser will provide money for CDH UK, Salford Red Devils Foundation, St Ann’s Hospice and Shelter4Forces.

After The Sounds of Salford gig, the group will perform on 11 September at the AJ Bell Stadium.
