Mystery of ‘arson’ at derelict Pendleton building

Reports of an arson attack at a derelict building in Pendleton have been rebuffed by Greater Manchester Police.

Fire and police crews were called to a ground-floor blaze on Greenwood Street on Saturday 3 September at around 10pm.

Initially Greater Manchester Fire Service said they believed the cause of the fire was arson.

However a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police told SalfordOnline.com they were not treating the incident as suspicious.

Firefighters from Agecroft, Broughton and Salford spend over an hour on scene, using water hoses to douse the flames and a positive pressure fan to clear smoke from the building.
