Top 8 things to do in Salford this weekend


The weekend is almost upon us and as a special treat we have eight suggestions for you instead of our usual five. Love Eccles is the big weekend choice but the charity bash at the Dog and Partridge is well worth a visit.

Help Our Own – Saturday 10 September – 7pm – Late

A musical and poetry evening organised by The Sounds of Salford radio in aid of local charities featuring music by Cinnamon Dinner, Chris Flynn, poetry by Jimmy Twamley, charity raffle, auction and food at the Dog and Partridge pub on Church Street, Eccles.

Admission £5 and all for good causes.

Eccles Makers Market
– Saturday 10 September – 9am – 4pm

The Makers Markets lands in Eccles transforming Church Street into a hub of creativity and a haven for food lovers. On offer the crème de la crème of Northern treats alongside art, modern craft and Vintage stalls.

There will be live music performances and a street food arena, making this a date you simply can’t miss.

Super Heroes with Super Powers at Eccles Library – Saturday 10 September – 10.30am to 12.30pm

Become a super hero for the morning, imagine life with super powers and be surprised by super hero appearances in the super surroundings of Eccles Library.
Children aged 7 years and under must be accompanied by an adult. No need to book just turn up.

Heritage Open Days – Saturday 10 September – 2pm – 4pm

Eccles Parish Church showcases the hidden treasures of this beautiful medieval red sandstone building.
Meet at the main entrance on Church Street for free guided tours of the church
at 2pm and 4pm. Cafe inside with refreshments available.

Pop Up Theatre – Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 September – 11am – 5pm

New Bailey will be transformed into a Roald Dahl wonderland, a giant peach will be positioned next to the cinema where you can climb inside and enjoy storytime sessions between films.

There will also be a walk through Wonka garden and a pop-up library to keep the bookworms entertained but watch out for the scary Witches who don’t like the smell of nasty horrible Children! Alongside the full day of interactive entertainment there will be Roald Dahl themed food to purchase alongside more traditional street food stalls (so no one goes hungry!).

The event will open at 11am on Saturday 10th September with James and the Giant Peach starting at 12pm. Willy Wonka & the Chocolate factory (1971) will follow at 3pm. Sunday will start at 11am with The Witches at 12pm and Matilda at 3pm.

Ordsall Olympics – Saturday 10 September – 11am -5pm

Ordsall Community Café on Tatton Street are inviting adults and children from all over Salford to come and try out new sporting activities.

There’ll be a climbing wall, face-painting, a basketball competition, an inflatable sumo wrestling ring, beginner Zumba classes and it all ends with a massive game of rounders on Regent Square park.

Car Boot and Eccles Dog Show – Sunday 11 September – 9am – 4pm

Eccles recreational ground is the place to be for all you bargain hunters as the ever popular car boot sale returns.

Eccles Dog Show will also be held on the recreational ground, Registration at 11am and show time at 2pm.
Homeless Hounds bring their popular fun dog show back to Eccles.

September Saxophones – Sunday 11 September 2016 – 14:00 to 16:00

Midweek Sax hosts September Saxophones, a free outdoor live music concert at the Victorian Bandstand in Victoria Park, Swinton.

Please bring your own blanket, cushion or chair to sit on.

Free admission.

Salford Red Devils – Sunday 11 September – 3pm kick off.

Can Salford Red Devils overcome Featherstone Rovers in what is turning out to be a must win for the struggling Salford Red Devils, get along to the AJ Bell Stadium and give them your support.
