Police are appealing for the public’s help after a woman was raped on a canal footpath in Manchester’s Gay Village.

The attack happened in the early hours of Saturday 7 March 2015.

A 23-year-old woman had been on a night out on Canal Street in the city centre, but became separated from her friends.

Shortly after 3am, she was walking alone down the canal footpath between Minshull Street and Dale Street, when she was approached by a man who then raped her.

The victim is around 5ft 5in tall, medium build and was wearing light coloured jeans and dark upper clothing. She has long dark hair and wore a light coloured hair band.

Detective Constable Steve Darragh from GMP’s Serious Sexual Offences Unit said: “As you can imagine, this woman is devastated by what has happened to her and we are determined to identify her attacker and arrest him for what he has done.

“We are asking for the public’s help to do this as we know there were a number of men in the area at the time this attack was taking place. We believe someone will have seen this offender either before or after the incident, or maybe even witnessed the offence itself.

“If you did see anything, or you remember seeing the victim in this area, please get in touch with us – you may think your information is trivial but it could be vital to our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police in the Serious Sexual Offences Unit on 0161 856 1831 or you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
