Salford City College HE graduation celebration

Family and friends gathered for a special ceremony to honour the 2016 Salford City College HE graduates at the University of Salford’s MediaCityUK campus.

The graduates were welcomed with a celebratory drink, had photographs in their cap and gowns and were entertained with an acoustic set by FutureSkills student, Kitty Davies.

Special guest, Chelsea Norris (BBC Radio Manchester and former Key 103 host) presented the students with their well-deserved certificates and scrolls, and special awards were also given out to a number of students in recognition of their outstanding academic achievement. One of these students was Rachel Myers who was presented with The Education and Care Award for being a “fantastic student who will become an outstanding teacher.”

Rachel who completed her Certificate in Education said, “I was so overwhelmed when my name was read out, teaching is just something I never thought I’d be able to do but the staff at the City Skills Centre have been amazing, I’m so happy with my award!”

Chelsea Norris inspired graduates with her speech about graduating with a 2:1 in Journalism to gaining work experience at Key 103 which led to eleven years presenting the breakfast show and interviewing guests such as Beyoncé and Ricky Gervais. She said, “Anything worth doing, isn’t often easy and sometimes we’re slow to show progress but if we’re patient and persistent then it pays off. One chapter of your life is finished and you’ve got all of these fantastic chapters ahead of you.”

Salford City College CEO & Principal, John Spindler gave a very moving speech as he said, “Your graduation is a huge milestone and something that you will never forget. There is a saying that ‘luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity’ so now that you are prepared, I hope you grab the opportunity with both hands.”
