Salford University swimmer Hannah Russell took gold in the S12 50m freestyle in the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
The partially-sighted 20-year-old swam a stunning 27.79s in the pool on Saturday to touch in just ahead of Germany’s Naomi Schnittger, who took silver in 28.38s.

The result brings Russell’s medal tally to three after she scored bronze in the S13 100m freestyle on Friday.
That followed Russell’s gold and new world record in the S12 100m backstroke earlier in the week.
Her first gold of the games came when she comprehensively beat Ukrainian Yaryna Matlo into second place by a six-second margin to smash her own record in a time of 1:06.06s.

Sunday evening saw the Paralympic Games closing ceremony in Rio de Janeiro.

ParalympicsGB ended the games with 64 gold medals and a total haul of 147, putting them in second place in the medal table behind China.

It’s the best result for Great Britain since the 1988 games in Seoul, South Korea.
