Woman hurt in Eccles taxi van smash still in critical condition


A woman hurt when a taxi and van collided in Eccles on Friday remains in a critical condition.

The woman, in her 50s, suffered multiple injuries when the shunt saw her trapped under the wheels of a blue taxicab.

The crash happened at the junction of on Wellington Road and Half Edge Lane just after 11am on Friday 16 September.

It’s understood the woman had stepped out to cross the road when the white van crashed into the back of the taxi, leaving the woman trapped underneath the cab.

14 nearby neighbours and passerbys who witnessed the accident managed to band together to physically lift the taxi to free the injured woman.

Paramedics gave emergency treatment in the road before taking her on to Salford Royal hospital, where she is still critically ill.

Greater Manchester Police have made no arrests.

Their investigation is ongoing.
