Men armed with machete flee after attempted robbery at Little Hulton Stumble Inn

Two men armed with a machete and a baseball bat tried to rob a shopworker of takings in Little Hulton on Monday morning before fleeing empty handed.

In the aftermath of the attempted robbery a burned out car was found just 500 yards away.

Police were called to the Stumble Inn chippy and Premier convenience store on Cleggs Lane at 11.50am on Monday 3 October.

The two thieves were described as being in their 30s and wearing dark clothing.

It’s understood that they were lying in wait for a man to come out of the former pub, then chased him down the street threatening him with the weapons.

When the man ran back inside the store the robbers panicked and ran off empty-handed.

Shortly after reports of the robbery, fire crews were called to nearby Falcon Drive where a VW Golf was ablaze, near the ginnel that leads through to West Way.

Police are linking this with the attempted robbery.

Detectives are now appealing for any witnesses who may have been on Cleggs Lane between 11am and 12 noon.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Greater Manchester Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
