Top 5 things to do in Salford this weekend


The weekend is upon us once again and the weather forecast isn’t that bad, which is just as well as several of our attractions involve the great outdoors.

Eccles Makers Market – Saturday 8 October 2016 – 9am – 4pm

The Makers Markets lands in Eccles transforming Church Street into a hub of creativity and a haven for food lovers, with live music, arisan food, clothing, gifts, this is an ideal day out.

Seeds & Sowing – Bridgewater Volunteers
– Saturday 8 October 2016 – 10:00 to 15:00

Join us at this hidden gem to prepare the ground for sowing wildflower meadow seeds such as Hay Rattle, Corn Chamomile and Cornflower. Not only do these flowers look beautiful, they also attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies. Meet at the entrance to the alley between Verdun Road & Kingswood Road.

All abilities are welcome and we provide all the tools and materials. We only ask that you are over 18 and have suitable footwear and outdoor clothing. Please bring a packed lunch – tea and coffee are provided.

Charity Football Match – Saturday 8 October 2016 – 2.20pm kick off.

Obviously not in Salford but its for a really worthwhile cause, the Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital and Awareness for Autism. Celebrities from, Coronation Street, Emmerdale, This Is England and sporting celebrities galore.

The match is being played at the Select Security Stadium, Widnes with admission £5 for adults and Under 16’s free.

The Three Boroughs Trail Sunday 9 October 2016 – 10:00 to 15:00

Starting at Clifton Country Park, Clifton House Road, Swinton M27 6NG. Meet at the Visitor Centre at 10am.

Salford Volunteer Rangers, who help to look after the green spaces and parks in Salford, are leading this 10 mile walk around Salford, taking in parts of Bolton and Bury as they wend their way around the beautiful Irwell Valley.

A donation to the volunteer rangers would be gratefully received – you’ll get tea and biscuits on your return!

Please note: parts of the walk can be muddy and rough. Walking boots or stout shoes recommended, full cover clothing and waterproofs, and bring water and sandwiches for lunch.

Bridgewater Fungi Foray Sunday 9 October 2016 – 14:00 to 16:00

Autumn is the best time to go fungi spotting and there is a rich diversity of them on show in the green spaces beside the Bridgewater Canal.

Delve into the magical world of fungi on this walk through the canal side woodland, look out for Jelly Ear, Turkey Tail and Fly Agaric and learn about what’s edible and what’s not.

Meet at the entrance to Bridgewater Park next to Booths Bank canal bridge, off Booths Hall Way.
