Man slashed in face during unprovoked attack in Deansgate

A man was slashed in the face in an unprovoked attack near Deansgate Locks.

Shortly after 3am on Saturday 1 October 2016 the 18-year-old victim was stood on the road outside Deansgate Locks next to a large group of men and women.

An altercation took place between the group and a man ran towards the victim and slashed him across the face with what is believed to be a utility knife.

The victim was taken to hospital where he needed stiches and will now be scared for life.

The offender is described as a white man in his early 20s, about 5ft 8ins, with dark short ‘spikey’ hair and was wearing dark jeans and a black t-shirt with a white logo near the neck at the front, across the back and also on the sleeves.

Officers have released an image of his injury in a bid to get people to come forward and help find the attacker.

Detective Constable Donna Gilman, from GMP’s city centre team, said: “This is a sickening attack on an innocent young man who was simply out enjoying himself.

“He was not involved in the altercation and happened to be stood next to a group who got involved in an argument.

“The injury he has to his face will permanently scar him and will impact on him physically and emotionally for the rest of his life.

“This could have been anyone’s friend, brother, son or grandson and I am urging anyone with any information about this awful attack to please contact us.”

Anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
