Bike thieves targeting Chapel Street area in Salford

Local police in Salford are warning of a spike in bike thefts around the Chapel Street, Trinity and Salford University areas.

As new and returning students flood back to the area for the winter 2016 term, thieves are focusing on easy targets.

Regent Road retail park is also a bike-theft hotspot at this time of year.

Local PCSO Mark Gerrard says: “We urge people to record the frame serial numbers and take images of their own pedal cycles in order to assist any investigation.

“If you do own a pedal cycle make sure you use a substantial chain and lock if you are going to be away from your bike for a long period of time.”

Riders can also register their pedal bikes at www.immobilise.com – which makes it easier for police to return stolen property if it is recovered.
