Salford’s GRAHAM construction wins £13m university contracts

Construction firm GRAHAM has secured three university contracts worth £13.4 million.

GRAHAM’s Northern division, based at Pacific Way on Salford Quays, has won new build and refurbishment contracts with the University of Manchester, University of York and University of Chester.

As preferred contractor GRAHAM will construct a new three-storey £8m teaching block at the University of York. Work starts in July and is expected to be completed in January 2016.

Work has also started on a £2.4m refurbishment of the 72-bed Greenwood block at the University of Manchester’s Hulme Hall, as well as a £3m extension to the University of Chester’s Seaborne Library.

In 2013 GRAHAM secured the contract to build an £81 million accommodation block for Salford University’s Peel Park campus.

Headquartered in Northern Ireland, the firm is part of the Salford Villages Consortium, which includes GRAHAM Investment Projects, Campus Living Villages, Equitix and Kier Project Investment, which jointly invested and developed the Salford property.

Work began on the 1,367-bed apartment complex near Salford Crescent train station in November 2013.

It is expected to open in September 2015.

Gary Hughes, GRAHAM regional director for the North of England, said: “GRAHAM has significant expertise within the education sector and we look forward to building on our relationships with some of the UK’s largest and most prestigious universities.

“We continue to grow our presence in the North of England and have established a good reputation as a quality and reliable contractor. We have had a strong start to the year on the back of recent project wins to refurbish the Piece Hall and build a new library and archive in Halifax, and a new science building for Liverpool Hope University.

“GRAHAM prides itself on collaborative developments, working both with clients and communities to deliver safe, sustainable and integrated projects. This is demonstrated by the raft of Considerate Constructor Scheme National Site Awards that GRAHAM has achieved this year.”
