Jailed: Bank worker who stole £55k from elderly customers

A Natwest bank worker has been jailed for 20 months after he defrauded customers out of almost £55,000.

30-year-old Matthew Parkhouse from Manchester pleaded guilty to six counts of fraud by abuse of position and one count of money laundering.

The call centre worker stole card details from customers and over the course of two years used them to funnel money into a Barclays Bank business account.

But after withdrawing nearly £11,000 from the account in December 2013, his fraud was picked up by Barclays and the 30-year-old was arrested for fraud and money laundering.

Detective Constable Laura Watson of GMP’s Fraud Investigation Team said: “Parkhouse was employed by NatWest and placed in a position of trust, dealing with customer accounts.

“He abused this trust and stole a large amount of money from, mainly elderly, customers, and used his position for his own gain. “
