Swinton twin sisters perform street dance finale to Mini Burble at MediaCityUK

16-year-old Charlotte and Abigail Low led a spectacular street dance finale at The Quays festival at MediaCityUK at the weekend.

The twin sisters from Swinton performed a one-off routine choreographed by Boy Blue Entertainment, the team who worked with Danny Boyle for the London 2012 Opening Ceremony.

This was part of the Quays Culture’s summer festival at Salford Quays.

They accompanied by Mini Burble, a 10-storey high balloon sculpture that took to the Salford skies for the last time having wowed audiences during a week-long residency.

Created by international digital artists Umbrellium, the finale completed a run of nine free shows following performances in Dubai, Hong Kong, Paris and Barcelona.

The 100 ft floating spectacle, with the colours controlled by members of the public using an iPad application and mobile phone tweeting, lit up the sky with changeable LED lights of 170 different colours.

Lucy Dusgate, Programme Producer for Quays Culture, says: “Mini Burble looked like a giant multi-coloured tethered cloud and it was magical to watch.

“It was an honour to have Mini Burble’s UK premier here at The Quays and we were so pleased so many people came to experience it.

“Like all our events, we encourage interaction with the art, and the public really embraced it by ‘finger painting’ the balloons with our iPads and the new live tweeting playful option. We are building a reputation for futuristic and inspiring free shows at the Quays, with our next large-scale light artwork touching down in December 2015.”

Laura Broome, Quays Culture Dance Producer added: “It was fantastic to have Boy Blue Entertainment involved in the finale of Quays Culture’s festival and close Mini Burble’s five-day residency.

“The dancers, from all walks of life, did an incredible job animating the Piazza at MediaCityUK and worked extremely hard on an energetic, vibrant and challenging routine. Many had never performed before, and to master the complex street dance movements was very impressive.

“I hope everyone enjoyed watching it as much as we did creating it and we appreciate the time they all gave up to make this happen.”

The next Quays Culture event in December will be a new large light-art commission outside The Lowry by US-based Danish artist Mads Christensen.
