Recap: Salford says farewell to ‘Vinegar’ Vera Done

Literally hundreds of people lined the streets around Salford Precinct on Friday 31 July to pay their final respects to one of Salford’s most well known characters, ‘Vinegar’ Vera Done.

The coffin arrived at St Paul’s C of E Church on Broadwalk covered in red roses and carried by family and friends.

It was then taken to Agecroft crematorium.

Veronica Done, better known to many as ‘Vinegar Vera’, passed away at the age of 77 on Sunday 19 July at Salford Royal Hospital.

She was a larger than life character, and most people in Salford of a certain age will have a story to tell you about Vera and her long term partner Mike MacGuire.

We spoke with Vera’s son Jimmy who gave a moving tribute to his mother in an exclusive interview with SalfordOnline.com shortly after her death.

People from all over the world offered their own tributes to Vera on social sites.

Vera will be sadly missed by many people but will continue to live on in their memories.
