Residents choose new road names in Eccles

Local residents have named three new roads which will be built as part of development of 68 two and three bed family houses and 12 one and two bed flats at Clifford Street and Green Street in Eccles.

Pupils at Godfrey Erman Primary School and local residents were invited to enter a competition to name the roads and win £50 Love2Shop vouchers.

The winners were:

Lindley Close (due to complete March 2016) Ruby Macdonald from Godfrey Erman Primary School
Sandon Close (due to complete August 2016) Kyle Barlow from Godfrey Erman Primary School
Dunlop Close (due to complete July 2016) Beryl James Peel Green resident

Beryl said: “Many thanks and what a nice surprise to have won! My husband worked at the local Regent Rubber tyre building factory when it was bought by Dunlop and that is why we gave the name Dunlop Close.”

Ruby and Kyles’ choices of Lindley and Sandon Close are linked to the historical use of the site by an engine company in 1890 called ‘Browett, Lindley and Co’ who had a factory built on the development site named ‘Sandon Works’.
