Man, 33, shot in the hip on Normanton Avenue in Salford


A 33-year-old man has been shot on Normanton Avenue off Tootal Drive in Weaste, Salford tonight.

Police sealed off the small cul de sac at around 6.15pm after reports of four distinct gunshots.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said in the aftermath of the shooting: “We were called to Normanton Avenue in Weaste, Salford to reports that a man had been shot.

“He is on the way to hospital right now.

“His injuries are consistent with gunshot wounds.”

The victim, who has not yet been identified, was taken under armed police guard from the scene by ambulance with a gunshot wound to his hip.

His injuries are thought to be serious, but not life-threatening.

Men in balaclavas were spotted leaving the scene shortly after the shooting.

One local said at around 6.15pm she heard three or four gunshots while she was in her kitchen, washing up.

A second heard four gunshots.

A third said: “I heard a noise and thought it was fireworks.

“10 minutes later, police went flying past my house and the street was taped off.

“An ambulance has just left with three police cars following it.

Superintendent Mark Kenny of GMP’s Salford Division said: “We have been made aware of this incident and we are now investigating it but I would like to stress that our enquiries are at a very early stage.

“In direct response to this very serious incident we have increased patrols in the area to try and prevent any further offences and reassure the public.

“I would like to appeal directly to members of the public to come forward if they have any information which may assist with the investigation, either by contacting the police directly or via Crimestoppers, anonymously.”

Earlier today two teenagers and a 20-year-old man were arrested after a house was shot at in Little Hulton.

The shooting, described by detectives as a “targeted incident” happened shortly after midnight last night, Wednesday 12 August.
