Watch: Overturned van on M62 near Eccles causes traffic chaos


Two lanes were closed with queuing traffic on the M62 near Junction 12 at Eccles after a van overturned this afternoon.

Police were called at 2.35pm today, Thursday 13 August, to reports of a white Transit van on its side.

6.15pm update: The accident has caused knock-on effects through into rush hour across the road network in Salford tonight.

The M602 and M60 Peel Green roundabout are chockablock.

There’s also heavier than usual traffic on the westbound carriageway of the A57 Cadishead Way near Irlam.

On the M60 anti-clockwise between junctions J18 and J12 at the M602 Interchange, there’s delays of around 40 minutes.

The M602 westbound between Junction 3 and Junction 1 is very slow, with delays of around 20 minutes for drivers.

The traffic is expected to clear by around 8pm tonight.


The driver was lucky to escape injury after the van flipped over.

The accident is causing traffic disruption, with slow and queuing vehicles all the way back to Junction 10 of the M60 at Trafford Park, and to Junction 14 at the Swinton Interchange.

Slow traffic has been reported on the M62 eastbound between Junctions 11 and 12 at Eccles as drivers slow down to look at the incident.

Highways Agency officers are at the scene making it safe.

Travel time between Junction 11 and 12 of the M62 is reported as around 35 minutes.
