AFC Monton club report

Match report by Ron Hodkin

FBT Manchester League Premier Division
AFC Monton 0 Wythenshawe Amateurs 0

AFC Montons opening fixture of the new season failed to provide much exciting football from both sides as actual goal scoring chances were few and far between.

The visitors opened brightly but it was Monton that produced the first real opportunity after fifteen minutes as Matty Campbell’s effort was well saved by the Wythenshawe keeper then minutes later Adam Tse went close to scoring for the Ammies.

A very neat passing move on the half hour involving several players saw Monton carve open the Wythenshawe defence only for Mike Gill to fail to hit the target from the edge of the penalty area with the keeper beaten.

The second half saw Monton increase their work rate and Adam Tae could not believe his bad luck as his fantastic strike from close range was somehow saved by the visitors keeper once more as he palmed the ball onto the cross bar and away to safety.

Unfortunately for Monton the game changed on the hour as they had a player sent off for a somewhat indifferent challenge which meant they had to shuffle the side around but they still managed to cope comfortably with the omission as Wythenshawe failed to capitalise on the situation.

Overall the result was a fair reflection on the game with both sides seemingly happy to share the points.
