Paul Massey murder: Hundreds expected at Friday funeral


The funeral of Paul Massey will take place this Friday 28 August from 11.30am at St Paul’s CE Church on Broadwalk, Salford precinct.

Hundreds of people from all over the country are expected to turn out to pay their respects.

Mourners are being asked to wear jeans and white T-shirts in Paul’s honour.

The service takes place at St Paul’s followed by an internment at Agecroft Cemetery.

Family and friends only are also being invited to a private wake at the  Lower Kersal Social Club in Salford.

Mr Massey’s family are still coming to terms with his death.

Greater Manchester Police launched a murder investigation after the 55-year-old was gunned down in the driveway of his home on Manchester Road in Clifton on Sunday 26 July.

A post-mortem revealed that Mr Massey died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

He was driving back to his home on the A666 Manchester Road at around 7.30pm on Sunday 26 July.

He got out of his silver BMW, parked up and was shot at several times in the street.

Witnesses saw a man in khahi, green or camouflage top and trousers fire off several rapid fire rounds.

His murderer fled on foot down an alleyway by St Anne’s Church while Paul lay wounded in his front driveway.

He had just returned from a family holiday in Wales at the time of the shooting.

Friends and well-wishers, including the Noonan family, left flowers at the police cordon on Manchester Road.

One reads: “RIP To a True Respectful man Paul Massey Lots of love your best mate Damien Noonan, Mandy, Twins & Coby.”

No one has yet been arrested for his murder.

Police are looking for a white gunman dressed in military camouflage clothing who shot Mr Massey four times with what is believed to be a black automatic pistol.

The man’s face was covered at the time of the shooting, and he is believed to have been wearing a fisherman-style hat with combat trousers tucked into black lace-up boots.

Police sources said it was possible the gunman had been lying in wait for the 55-year-old grandfather, who was adored by his family.

A 33-year-old man who was tracked down and shot on Normanton Avenue in Weaste on Wednesday 12 August is thought to be linked to the case.

A car was seized from a property on Normanton Avenue on Friday 16 August and taken away for forensic analysis.

Two specialised Major Incident Teams are working on the murder probe, and Greater Manchester Police are believed to have drafted in collegagues from the National Crime Agency to crack the case.
