Salford City College appoints new Chief Executive Officer and Principal

Easter this year brings with it a change at the helm of Salford City College with the announcement from the Corporation that John Spindler is to join the College as its new Chief Executive Officer and Principal from the beginning of the summer term.

He is currently Deputy Principal of Hopwood Hall College in Rochdale, where he has played a major role in transforming that college.

In his new role, he will be responsible for leading Salford City College through working in partnership both internally with the Corporation and management team, and externally with Greater Manchester partners to shape the future strategic direction and deliver against the College’s mission, vision and values.

John commented: “I am delighted to be joining Salford City College to lead one of the very best colleges in the country. I am committed to the continued progressive development of the College, and will look to position it as an asset to local business, integral to the local community, and a centre of excellence for learners.”

John Spindler replaces Martin Sim, the current Chief Executive Officer and Principal since 2010, who announced last summer his decision to retire in 2015. Prior to this Martin was Deputy Principal of Salford City College, when it was created after merger in 2009.

Martin said: “It has been a privilege to lead this fantastic college for the past five years, and I know that it will continue to deliver exemplary educational opportunities. I will take with me many happy memories, particularly around the outstanding success of our learners.”

Salford City College’s Chair of Corporation, Jackie Flynn, confirmed that: “The Governors are very pleased to announce the appointment of John Spindler to lead the College going forward. Our hope is that he will work with our talented and hardworking staff to ensure continuous improvement.

We would like to thank Martin Sim for his commitment, dedication and hard work in Salford over many years. He leaves Salford City College well placed to build on its current success, and we look forward to working with John to continue our journey towards excellence”.
