Brave staff hurt refusing weapon-wielding raiders in Top Shop Monton robbery

A shopkeeper was injured defending his property in a violent robbery at a store in Monton last night.

At around 8pm on Friday 27 March two men walked into the Top Shop Premier store on Folly Lane and threatened staff with a metal bar and a pickaxe handle.

They demanded money and cigarettes, but staff bravely refused and in the intervening struggle one worker was hit on the head with a weapon.

The would-be thieves fled empty-handed towards Park Road.

Police and crime scene investigators conducted forensic searches of the property while the staff member was treated for an injury to his head.

His wounds are not thought to be life-threatening.

The suspects are described as being white, one with a navy blue hooded jacked and the other wearing dark clothing with a white-T-shirt.

The store, which is open 7 days as week, was accepting customers as usual this morning.

It is the second time the shop has been targeted by armed thieves in under two months.
