Long delays on M60 after lorry crash sparks large fuel spill

Drivers are being warned to expect long delays on the M60 after an earlier crash between a lorry and two cars saw the HGV leak fuel into the road.

North West Motorway Police closed two lanes of the clockwise carriageway between Junction 13 at Worsley and Junction 15 for the M61 and Swinton interchange.

Greater Manchester Fire were also called to the scene after fears the lorry driver could be trapped in his cab.

The smash happened at around 8.45am on Wednesday 26 August.

There are not thought to be any serious injuries.

Gritters are now out on the route near the M61 turnoff to cover the fuel spill.

Highways Agency workers are helping to clean up the mess.

There are delays of around 30 minutes on the clockwise side of the motorway between Junction 11 at Eccles and Junction 15.

On the M62 there is congestion back from the M60 to Junction 11 at Birchwood.

Normal traffic conditions are expected from around 11.45 am.
