Monton club bowls in the cash for St Ann’s

Kind-hearted crown green bowlers from the Boddan Lodge Club in Monton, Eccles, donated another tranche of funding to St Ann’s Hospice from their bowling competition last week.

Around 30 players took part in the annual contest, raising almost £400 for the hospice.

St Ann’s, which has centres in Little Hulton and Cheadle Hulme, costs around £16,000 to keep offering free and discounted care to people with life-limiting and terminal illnesses.

SalfordOnline.com spoke to club chairman Ken Livesey who told us more about the fundraising day.

“One of our late committee members Walter Matthews and his wife both volunteered at St Ann’s Hospice,” he said.

“Walter decided to purchase the St Ann’s Trophy for which our members would play for each year and all money raised would go to St Ann’s.

“On the day we have a strawberry tea, cakes, a raffle and a bric a brac stall which helps boost the amount raised.

“Over the last 13 years we have raised over £5,000 and we will continue to do so.

“The hospice does does such a great job, and I am certain that every one of us knows a family member or friend who have been treated by their amazing carers, so we try to help out in any way we can.

Ken added that the thriving club are always on the lookout for new members and you don’t even have to play bowls, they have a wide range of activities on offer from meals to trips out so if you want a social outlet in the Monton area, feel free to give Ken a call on 0161 793 0735.
