Salford City College Staff to Run Salford 10k for St Ann’s Hospice

A team of curriculum and support staff from Salford City College will be running the Decathlon City of Salford 10k on Sunday 6th September to raise money for St Ann’s Hospice. After a staff vote earlier this year, St Ann’s Hospice was chosen as the official college charity for 2015/16.

Salford City College’s CEO & Principal John Spindler will be racer number ‘99’ in the 10k, to represent the 99% pass rate achieved once again by A-Level students this year. John commented: “I’ve always been a keen runner, and have competed in marathons all over the world. I’m very excited to be taking part in the Salford 10k alongside a fantastic team of colleagues.”

The Salford City College team, which includes staff members of all running abilities, is now hoping to be crowned the fastest 10k company in the North West, as part of the race’s Corporate Challenge. The first team to cross the finish line will not only receive recognition as the champions of the Decathlon City of Salford 10k Corporate Challenge but also receive a trophy for their team.

As well as the runners, there are also many members of Salford City College staff who are not taking part in the run, but will be helping out on the day by handing out water bottles and goodie bags to participants, or marshalling the race.

Race Director Graham Jackson said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Salford City College to this year’s Decathlon City of Salford 10K. It’s great to see the staff taking part in the race and raising money for charity, and also celebrating a fantastic A-Level pass rate this year. We’d like to say a big thank you to the college for donating water bottles for our runners and helping out on the day.”

The Salford 10k route will head out from the MediaCityUK Piazza, across the bridge into Trafford Park before returning to the Salford side and finishing in front of all the cheering family, friends and supporters.
