Man’s body found in Manchester Ship Canal in Salford


The body of a man has been discovered in the Manchester Ship Canal in Peel Green, Salford.

Greater Manchester Police are treating the death as “unexplained” and enquiries are ongoing to see if there are any suspicious circumstances.

Police were called to a grassed area off Langland Drive, on the border of Peel Green and Barton, at around 1.15pm today.

Officers have cordoned off a right of way leading down to the water and are standing guard.

The site is around 500 yards from the Barton Swing Bridge, next to a new estate of houses off Peel Green Road.

The man has not yet been identified.

By 2.35pm Crime Scene Investigation officers had arrived at the scene.

Eyewitnesses spotted fire crews parked near Barton Bridge, before multiple police and ambulances arrived.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: “Shortly after 1.15pm on Friday 11 September 2015 police were called to the
canal at Peel Green in Salford to a report that a body had been found in the canal.

“Officers attended and found the body of a man.

“The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are on-going.”
