Salford City College team raises £650 for St Ann’s Hospice

Staff at Salford City College have raised an amazing £650 for St Ann’s Hospice after taking part in the Decathlon City of Salford 10k on Sunday 6th September. Twenty four members of college staff, including teachers, senior managers, support staff and governors, completed the run to raise money for the College’s chosen charity.

Apprenticeships Co-ordinator Danny Clarke was the fastest Salford City College staff member, completing the race in just 49 minutes. He commented: “I really enjoyed the event, and it was brilliant to be cheered on by my colleagues. It gave me great motivation to know that we were all running together for such a deserving charity.”

Salford City College’s CEO & Principal John Spindler was runner number ‘99’ in the 10k, to represent the 99% pass rate achieved once again by A-Level students this year. He said: “Quite unbelievably, my finishing position for the race was 999th- I had even said before I ran that I’d be happy to be in the top one thousand runners, so I’ve achieved my target!”

He added: “It was fantastic to have so many staff members taking part in the event, not only as runners but also as race marshals and goodie bag packers. It was a great way to bring all the staff together to raise money for our college charity of the year, St Ann’s Hospice.”

Alison Gilbody, Director of Income Generation and Communications at St Ann’s Hospice, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to all of the runners from Salford City College for their brilliant achievement – it’s always humbling to see local people going the extra mile for the charity, or in this case the extra 10k!

“As well as supporting patients from our local communities, we work closely with local organisations from right across Greater Manchester. Working with Salford City College as their charity of the year is really exciting, and we’re so pleased to see everyone from the College embracing their fundraising activities and raising so much money. Every penny will make a huge difference to our patients and their loved ones.”

Graham Jackson, UK Race Director, said: “The Decathlon City of Salford 10k was a fantastic event, which saw record numbers of entrants. The race was drenched in sunshine and with so many smiles on people faces there was obviously a lot of energy and excitement around it. Being at MediaCityUK the race had a fantastic start/finish area where all the event partners and runners came together to enjoy the day, and we very much hope to build on this further for 2016.”
