Competition: Win tickets to David Arnold at Bridgewater Hall

SalfordOnline.com are running a competition for two tickets to see the most famous musician you’ve probably never heard of.

David Arnold, 53, is best known for scoring five James Bond Films, Independence Day and television series Little Britain.

He is one of the country’s most influential and successful composers and as well as playing keyboard and guitar live on stage, will share insights into the world of a Bond film composer and songwriter.

One lucky reader will be able to witness a 75-piece orchestra play through some of David’s best work in a specially designed composition.

To be in with a chance of winning two tickets all you have to do is email your name, address and contact phone number to newsdesk@salfordonline.com marking your entry ‘David Arnold Competition’. The competition closes at 5pm on Tuesday 7 April.

In an exclusive interview David told SalfordOnline.com he was inspired by a musical childhood to create these iconic scores.

He said: “My mum and dad always had records on, this ranged from The Beatles and Stevie Wonder to film music from West Side Story.”

Despite his obvious talent it took David many years to get into the industry.

“I was working a full time job and writing music for friend’s film taken from a handheld camera.

“I quickly realised that having a permanent, full-time job wasn’t helping my career prospects.”

This friend was director David Cannon: “David and I entered the BBC Young Filmmakers of the Year competition and won, and it started to take off from there.”

His first major work came in the 1993 crime drama The Young Americans again directed by David Cannon.

‘Play Dead’, a single from the film soundtrack by Icelandic genius Björk, charted at number 12 in the UK.

David got his international big break in 1996 with his involvement in the blockbuster Independence Day, where his epic score won a Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media.

David has only seen and heard his work performed live twice before, so the experience is still quite new to him.

Amazingly, he will only meet the team performing the piece, the Manchester Camerata, the day before the show at the Bridgewater Hall.

David Arnold performs on Tuesday 14 April at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester.

Tickets ranging from £26.50-£44.60 are available online here
