Salford’s Big Day Out – Swinton – Saturday 19 September – 11am to 4pm

The kick off to Salford’s 17-day food festival, Salford’s Big Day Out is a party on the lawns at Swinton Civic Centre with food and drink stalls, The Great Salford Cake Off, a vintage market, a Secret Garden, traditional school sports day and family fun activities – plus a chilli festival in Swinton Square.

Bring your homemade cake along to the tea tent to enter the Great Salford Cake Off competition. Cakes need to be handed in between 11.00am and 12.00pm to be judged at 2.30pm. The winner will be announced at 4.00pm.

Entry is free and there will be free parking available.

Kenny Davies Memorial fun day – Oakwood Park, Langworthy – Saturday 19 September – 12pm till late

A Langworthy Reds rugby club family fun day at Oakwood Park to celebrate the life of 21-year-old club legend Kenny Davies, who sadly took his own life in 2013.

The annual event starts at 12 noon with the Langworthy Reds U7’s in action, followed by the U8’s at 1pm. The Open Age team takes centre stage at 2.30pm as they face Bury Broncos for the Kenny Davies Memorial Trophy.

Along with the games there will be bouncy castles, face painting, raffles, a live band, BBQ and of course the club bar.

Head down to cheer on your local team and remember the life of the much-loved player and coach.

Langworthy Reds ARLFC, Oakwood Park, Swinton Park Road, M6 7PB

Emily James charity prom night – Henley’s Bar, Barton Lane, Eccles – Saturday 19 September – 7pm till late

A family and child-friendly prom night for the desperately-ill Eccles teenager Emily James.

Emily is one of only a handful of people in the world with the most severe form of Elhers Danlos Syndrome (EDS).

Read more about her and watch this stunning charity headshave back in May 2015 which raised a £2577.

There’s music and dancing planned, along with an auction of signed Manchester United gear to help pay for private care for Emily.

All are welcome.

Walking Salford’s green corridors – Clifton Country Park – Sunday 20 September – 10am to 3pm

A 10-mile trek through Salford’s beautiful woodland led by Salford Volunteer Rangers, crossing from Clifton Country Park over to Worsley and Blackleach Country Park for a lunch stop, before returning to Clifton Country Park for 3pm.

Bring sandwiches and drinking water, full cover clothing, waterproofs and appropriate footwear, as some of the terrain can be muddy and overgrown.

Creative Sundays – Salford Museum and Art Gallery – Sunday 20 September – 12.30pm to 3pm

Ideal for children age 5 to 10, join artist Alison Burrows to use a template to design a dream pair of shoes – and if they have laces, learn how to lace them up too!
