FBT Manchester League Gilgryst Cup 1st round
AFC Monton travelled to table toppers Royton Town FC for this Gilgryst Cup first round fixture and left with nothing to show for their efforts as their hosts clinical ability in front of goal proved to be the difference on the day.
Royton opened with good tempo to their game but as the Ammies settled and started to come to terms with the artificial surface at Oldham Academy they gained confidence and began to match their hosts in every department.
In a tense first forty five minutes neither side really created many good goalscoring opportunities as both defences were tight and well organised but the re-start saw the hosts increase their work rate and effort and they took the lead just after the hour mark with a well finished goal. Worse was to come for Monton as Royton scored a second goal minutes later following some indecisive defending to effectively kill off the tie and send Royton into the second round.

AFC Monton reserves travelled to the Wright Robinson Sports Academy for this cup tie on the artificial surface and despite putting on a brave battle left empty handed as the hosts progressed into the second round.
After going behind to an early opening goal by the hosts Monton found the perfect reply with a stunning volley by Reuben Brown but their hopes were short lived as East Manchester managed to score two further goals and seal the tie.
