Man rescued after falling 30ft into River Irwell near Lowry Hotel


A man in his 30s was rescued from the River Irwell in Salford last night after falling 30ft from a footbridge near The Lowry Hotel.

Police, fire crews and paramedics were called to the riverside, near Dearmans Place, at 10.35pm on Sunday 27 September to reports of a man in the water.

The victim broke his leg in the fall but was pulled to safety by a group of friends.

Specialist fire crews from Eccles, aided by the North West Ambulance Service Hazardous Area Response Team, helped treat the man at the river side.

He was taken by ambulance to Salford Royal Hospital for treatment where his condition is said to be stable.

His injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
