Liverpool Street in Salford closed after burst water main

Emergency road repairs are being carried out between Cross Lane and Albion Way, with Liverpool Street closed in both directions.

The closure happened at around 6am this morning after a water main burst.

It caused knock-on delays for commuters heading into and out of Manchester.

United Utilities engineers are on site carrying out repairs.

Elsewhere in Salford this morning the authority said it had found a burst pipe on Elm Road/Water Street.

Local residents may find that their water is coming out at a low pressure or is off altogether.

“We’ve already got a team of engineers on site who are working hard to fix the pipe,” they said.

“We’re sorry for the trouble this may be causing you and we will get your taps flowing normally again as quickly as we can.”
