£1.5m fake handbags, jewellery and clothes seized in Manchester


Police have confiscated £1.5 million of fake clothing, jewellery and handbags in a raid on a warehouses and shops in Strangeways, Manchester.

Among the stock seized were hundreds of pairs of counterfeit trainers, hooded tops and dresses, sunglasses and high-value fake handbags.

Strangeways is one of the largest counterfeit goods suppliers in the UK, said police.

14 premises were hit in the area on Tuesday 29 September as part of Greater Manchester Police’s ‘Rogue Trader’ operation.

Police Sergeant Darren Thomason said: “The warrants executed today are seen as part of a large scale multi agency approach in combating those dealing in counterfeit goods. These practises have a far reaching impact on many facets of people’s lives.

“The Strangeways area is one of the largest counterfeit goods suppliers in the UK and the sale of such products has a huge impact on the local tax payer and businesses.

“Today we send a message that these will no longer be tolerated.”
