Cleminson Street Salford, highway work complete

The £1.1million highway realignment scheme on Salford’s Cleminson Street is now complete, adding to and supporting the extensive work already undertaken in and around Chapel Street.

Funded by Transport for Greater Manchester and Salford City Council’s Chapel Street developer partner, English Cities Fund, the scheme represents the next phase of delivery of the Salford Central Masterplan. It adopts a layout which will provide a traffic calmed environment for this mainly residential area and enable development of the adjacent site which is to soon be transformed into high quality housing.

Designed by Urban Vision and constructed by Balfour Beatty, the project involved constructing new road and pavements using high quality natural paving materials in keeping with the Adelphi-Bexley Square conservation area.

The scheme enhances pedestrian access and safety incorporating wide tree-lined pavements (trees to be planted in the spring), formalized crossing points and 20mph zone speed reduction features help to reduce the speed of vehicles in the area. New drainage, modern street lighting, high quality tree planting and the introduction of new parking bays are also key features of the design.
