Woman in 50s critically injured in Eccles crash


A woman has been seriously injured after a van and taxi collided at the junction of Wellington Road and Half Edge Lane in Eccles.

The woman, believed to be in her 50s, suffered severe injuries and is being treated by paramedics at the scene.

Emergency services were called to a crash between a blue taxi and a white van at 11.09am, today, Friday 16 September at a mini-roundabout on Half Edge Lane.

It’s understood the woman was a pedestrian and was trapped underneath the taxi after the two vehicles collided.

SalfordOnline.com has been informed that passing locals helped to physically lift the cab to free the woman so she could receive emergency treatment.

Traffic is currently being redirected around the section of Half Edge Lane where the crash took place.

Drivers are being diverted down Abbey Grove.

A member of the ambulance crew at the scene said that the woman was in a critical condition.

North West Ambulance Service confirmed that they dispatched a road ambulance and a rapid response vehicle shortly after 11am on Friday morning.

As of 12.30pm paramedics had taken the woman on to hospital.

The road closure will remain in place for a number of hours on Friday afternoon.

Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are expected to open a probe into how the accident happened.
