By Tony Flynn
Distraught friends of a Salford family whose baby son passed away this week are to hold a day of charity events in his memory. Baby Dan Edge tragically died in his sleep on Monday 16 February, leaving a community heartbroken.
Family friend Stephen Walton, 27, from Eccles, was so moved on hearing the news that along with his brother Glenn he organised a memorial football match to be followed by charity auction at the Packet House pub in Eccles.
"The news has devasted everybody and the whole community has rallied round to help the family at this distressing time," said Stephen.
"My brother Glenn who lives in New Jersey opened a Paypal account and in less than 48 hours people from all over the world have donated over £1,000 which is incredible."
A Facebook group set up to promote the charity match has had over 1,200 likes in the past two days.

Stephen said: "We have been overwhelmed with donations for the raffle including signed football shirts from Manchester United and Manchester City, meals at local restaraunts, beauty treatments, chocolates and more.
"It's far too much to mention, the local community have been that good to us."
The charity football match will be between The Packet House FC and Barton Town FC and will kick off at 11am on Sunday 1 March at Brookhouse playing fields.
Players and supporters will observe a minute's silence of remembrance before kick off.
Donation buckets will be carried around the pitch where you can add your donation - the bigger the better.
This will be followed by a buffet and raffle at the Packet House pub starting at 2pm.
"I would just like to stress how grateful I am to the good people of Eccles and Salford who have rallied round at such a sad time for the family," said Stephen.
"Things like this restore your faith in people.
"We are all sick of reading negative stories about local people, this just shows that they are the best people on earth."
If you would like to donate towards costs for the family you can send an instant payment through Paypal to Waltonglenn7@aol.com.
