Records tumble as Swinton thrash Skolars 86-4
By Ian Rigg

Chris Atkin was Swinton's star man in sunny London on Saturday as the Lions recorded their biggest ever away victory to claim a spot in the next round of the Challenge Cup.

Atkin scored 34 points by himself - beating the previous record of 30 held by the likes of Mick Nanyn and Ian Mort.

He also converted 13 goals from 15 attempts to beat Ken Gowers' 1957 goal record.

The Lions took the lead in the eighth minute when Rhodri Lloyd broke clear to feed Jimmy Rowlands and he scored by the posts with Atkin converting.

They scored again from the kick off when fast hands got Richie Hawkyard over in the left corner and again Atkin converted.

It was just three minutes later when Ben White escaped tackles to score under the posts with the conversion again good.

Atkin himself scored the fourth when he found a gap down the middle to score by the posts and add the goal kick as the man on the tannoy was having trouble keeping up!

Stuart Littler crossed for the next score on 17 minutes when he got a nice inside pass from Shaun
Robinson.

Wigan youngster Rhodri Lloyd - who signed for Swinton on a month-long loan deal last week - then added a brace in a three minute-period as the Skolars had no answers to the Lions attack and again both were converted.

Skolars finally got on the scoreboard six minutes from the break when second row man Will Lovell scored under the posts but in bizarre fashion Vince Spurr put his conversion under the cross bar.

Just before the half-time hooter sounded Chris Rothwell scored from a Skolars error but this conversion was missed.

Things were just the same after the restart when Rob Lever scored under the posts in the first minute of the half and again it was converted.

Rothwell turned try provider a few minutes later when he sent Rowlands in for his second again converted by Atkin. White scored the next one after Jordan James had gone close again converted.

The next points saw Atkin both scored the try and kick the conversion.

Swinton continued the rout on 61 minutes when the impressive Connor Dwyer scored in the corner but Atkin could not convert.

Rhodri Lloyd completed his hat trick six minutes from time and Atkin converted, while there was one last try in the dying seconds when White crossed by the posts and Atkin goaled to give him a record-breaking 36 points for the afternoon's work.
