M60 closed at J11-12 as man on bridge threatens to jump


Police closed the M60 motorway in both directions between Junctions 11 and 12 after a man scaled a motorway bridge and threatened to jump.

Specially-trained officers arrived on scene at around 1.20pm to negotiate with the man.

One eyewitness spotted the man run along Stannard Road in Brookhouse, Eccles, before walking along the motorway bridge and climbing over the barrier.

Traffic backed up between Junction 7 at Chester Road all the way to Junction 13 at Worsley.

Update: As of 1.45pm police had managed to get the man back onto the right side of the barrier and are awaiting an ambulance.

A rolling road block has now been released and traffic is being allowed past the scene.
